Look to the soil
I'm an outsider. I'm a mix of everything.
If I ever leave this place, one day I will return
I began carving the moment my lineage was born–hundreds of thousands of years ago
Out of the blue, we heard this sweet lovely melody
it’s the story behind what I envision that enforces the shape
Back in the old days, the Chamorro people would just use what we have––from the ocean to the land––so I’m going back to that
The people of the Marianas—from so many first-person accounts—were always said to be some of the best swimmers in the world
I will spend the rest of my life doing this. Because I live here. And because it’s an important story
I am an instrument of God
The flowers connect me to my grandmother
I really wasn’t considered anybody in anything. But, I decided then I would focus all my effort on the history of the Marianas
what I’d like to see—more acceptance and more camaraderie with people who choose to live here and be part of this place
You cannot keep going forward without looking back
Hey Joe, have candy?
We always depended on nature
Now that was culture shock
I went to the cliffs, the beaches– even at night. I would sit there and talk to the spirits.
What drives me to carve is the stories
I’m putting the past and present together
Don’t be afraid to do anything, start anything
it connects me to the land and to the culture
If you want to appreciate music you need to first understand your own music
I don’t want this culture to die
